“Mill Valley” by Rita Abrams *
I’m gonna talk about a place that’s got a hold on me (Mill Valley)
A little place where life feels very fine and free (Mill Valley)
Where people aren’t afraid to smile
And stop and talk with you a while
And you can be as friendly as you want to be (Mill Valley)
Talkin’ ’bout Mill Valley, that’s my home
It looks as pretty in the rain as in the sun (Mill Valley)
And there’s a mountain that belongs to everyone (Mill Valley)
And there are creeks that run on endlessly
And trees as far as you can see
It makes you feel as if your life has just begun (Mill Valley)
Talkin’ ’bout Mill Valley
Talkin’ ’bout Mill Valley, California, that’s my home
I know that there might come a time I’ll have to leave Mill Valley
And every memory will seem like make-believe
And all the good things that are mine right now
Will call to me and ask me how
I could have left them all behind
How could I leave Mill Valley
Talkin’ ’bout Mill Valley
Talkin’ ’bout Mill Valley, California, that’s my home
About the Celebration
A wide range of events are planned for Labor Day Weekend including an historically-themed parade, live music, screenings of historical videos, tours of the Old Mill and much more.
These events are for all those whose lives have been touched by Mill Valley, including neighborhoods and nearby communities who have both benefitted from and been impacted by the City’s development.
We recognize that the rich history of our community includes the people who came before us centuries ago, living on and stewarding the land for thousands of years, as well as those who were deliberately excluded from our town in the more recent past. With this recognition comes Mill Valley’s collective commitment to foster equity, inclusion and belonging for all in the present and future. If you’ve worked here, lived here, attended school here, you are an important part of this community and we hope to see you on September 1, 2025!

History
The area we call Mill Valley was inhabited for thousands of years by the Coastal Miwoks prior to the decision to incorporate on September 1, 1900. Since that time, our community has regularly celebrated that historic moment in the long history of this special area at the base and on the hillsides of majestic Mount Tamalpais.
Our intent for the celebration of the 125th Anniversary of the Incorporation of the City of Mill Valley is to bring our community together for a common awareness and commitment to this special town and surrounding community. As part of that effort, the Mill Valley 125th Anniversary Committee is sponsoring a series of articles by noted local historian and author Joyce Kleiner. These articles are intended to foster understanding, and pride, in Mill Valley’s history, and will focus on some of the people and events that shaped Mill Valley’s spirit of stewardship, volunteerism, and community involvement.
Join your fellow 94941 community members in supporting the Mill Valley 125th Celebration!
Contributions to the General Celebration help to make activities and events like the historic parade and the community party in the Plaza, featuring live music and birthday cake, free for all to enjoy. Your generosity ensures a fun, inclusive celebration of our civic spirit. Every contribution, no matter the size, plays a crucial role in celebrating our city’s vibrant past and promising future. Let’s celebrate Mill Valley’s 125th as one community, together under 9494-ALL.
Two ways to contribute to the Mill Valley is 125th Celebration:
